This is truly a unique opportunity for selected applicants to experience the wonders of China inexpensively. Program activities include practical instruction and real-time experience in teaching English, organizing cultural exchange events, recruiting Chinese participants language schools, and cultural exchange activities.

You will be living in tropical Haikou City, the capital of Hainan Province, is located on the southern bank of the Qiongzhou Strait, facing the mainland's Leizhou Peninsu. Built on the mound of the coast, it is the biggest city in Hainan Province and along with its ancient past, it now serves as a major trade and communications hub.

Participants will be gaining practical experience teaching English, and assisting in day to day operations of the language center. Activities are wide ranging and everyday is a challenge. Applicants will be working and studying at the center and at local schools and organizations where they will have plenty of chances to share their culture, and experience the varied cultures of China.

Applicants should be self starters who are not afraid to try new things and able to take instruction. Instruction will be given on teaching English as a second language, working and living in a foreign culture, and business management. Participants will be living in a communal situation and need to be able to be tolerant of other cultures and be ready to help with the daily logistics of the center. This is a tremendous opportunity for students of the Chinese language or culture.

It is an ancient city. It has tropical crops processing, electronics and textiles as the mainstays of its light industry, and it is a foreign trade and sea port city with advanced communications and a complete range of service equipment.. The city has beautiful scenery, a pleasant climate and luxuriant vegetation. Among the ancient remains and tourist sites are Wugong Temple reputed to be the "first building under the heaven", the admirable Qiongtai Academy of Classical Learning, the Hairui Tomb, the Qiujun Tomb, and the like.Because of its location on an island at the northern rim of the tropics, Haikou benefits from a tropical climate.

Average annual sunlight in Haikou is about 2,600 hours, while average annual rainfall is about 1,300 mm. Visitors to the city can expect pleasant conditions and clear skies most of the year.More than any other urban centre on Hainan Island, Haikou enjoys a diverse and colourful blend of traditional folk customs and modern Chinese and western culture. Visitors exploring the crowded streets and old neighbourhoods near the steel and glass office towers are sure to hear Chinese opera, traditional folk songs and western pop music and experience an equally diverse blend of culture.
