Kozmoz Japan – Health and Safety Policy
Kozmoz Japan is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and healthy working and learning environment for all interns, staff, and volunteers.
Our community projects, café, and food bank operations involve contact with the public, food preparation, and occasional off-site activities.
We ensure that every participant receives basic orientation and supervision appropriate to their role.
1. Responsibilities and Supervision
All interns are directly supervised by Caston Wyatt, Kyoto Activity Center Manager, under the direction of Barry Wyatt, Director of Kozmoz Japan.
Supervisors provide on-site guidance and ensure that interns follow proper procedures in café operations, food distribution, and community events.
2. Health and Safety Measures
Kozmoz Japan maintains the following safety standards:
- Safe and hygienic food-handling procedures in accordance with local regulations.
- Regular cleaning and maintenance of kitchen and public areas.
- Instruction on safe lifting and carrying of supplies.
- Use of bicycles and vehicles only when approved and in safe condition.
- Immediate reporting and recording of any accidents, injuries, or unsafe conditions to a supervisor.
- First-aid materials available on site and emergency contact numbers posted clearly.
3. Off-Site Activities
When interns participate in off-site distribution or collection of foodstuffs, transportation is provided by Kozmoz Japan staff.
Interns are briefed on destination, procedures, and safety considerations in advance.
4. Insurance
Japanese labor and immigration law does not permit interns to be included in the organization’s industrial accident insurance.
Interns are therefore required to secure personal health insurance valid for the duration of their stay in Japan.
5. Emergency Contacts

6. Policy Review
This policy is reviewed annually or as required to maintain compliance with local safety regulations and to ensure the well-being of all participants.
